Behavior Intervention Specialist
Our Behavioral Support Department has several Full Time 40-hour, Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) positions available. The BIS schedule is Monday – Friday. BIS hours vary according to needs of WWAARC program staff and the people you will be supporting with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Flexibility is required. The BIS has the option to have their office be based out of Queensbury, NY or Slingerlands, NY. BISs are expected to attend meetings and visit WWAARC programs on their caseload in Warren, Washington, and Albany County. This is an exempt salaried position with an annual salary of $51,480.
The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) will develop and implement behavior support plans in accordance with NYS OPWDD regulatory requirements and the agency mission with a person centered, strength-based approach. The BIS will train staff regarding the Behavior Support Plans (BSP), as well as monitor the effectiveness of the BSP through data analysis and observation.

BISs are required to be 18 years of age, with a valid driver’s license, to secure and maintain all certifications and trainings required by WWAARC. This includes but is not limited to, Medication Administration, 1st Aid & CPR, Decision Driving, and SCIP-R, National Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA). Also required a Master’s Degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD; OR, Have either a Master’s Degree in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical intervention, or a related human services field OR have a NYS license in Mental Health Counseling AND have obtained OPWDD approved specialized training or experience in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; OR, Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field AND have provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD system as of and continuously since December 31, 2012 and Is working towards a Master’s Degree in an applied area of psychology, social work, or special education.
